Every great story has a beginning…

The story of Lanhams Motor Group starts in 1937 in Leeton New South Wales, when a young man named Stan Lanham, bought a modest spare parts and motor repair shop, affectionately known as Johnsons Garage. Soon after Stans father Elias joined him in 1940.

The duo steered the business through the depression to establish one the region’s most successful motor dealerships including farm machinery.

Over the next few years they acquired franchises for Chrysler & Dodge, Austin-Morris, International Trucks, BMC and MG.

1955 saw the re-naming of the company to Lanhams Motor Garage.

It wasn’t just the start of a business…
It was the beginning of a legacy.

A single step into an industry that would become a lifelong passion, which he may not have realised….. but for future generations as well.

Not long after, Stan’s father, Elias Lanham, joined his son — and together, they built something far greater than either could have imagined.

A family business grounded in hard work, trust, and a passion for the motor industry.

In 1947 they were appointed the official NRMA agents for the Leeton district – a vital motoring service, which continues to this day.

Fast forward to 1962 and the next generation stepped in.  Stan’s son Garry began his journey as an apprentice mechanic — learning the trade from the ground up before moving into sales.

Soon after Trevor Lanham joined the family business- leading the accounts department.

Together, they all guided the business through a period of transformation — establishing Lanhams as a Ford dealer in 1973, and building a reputation for excellence that would last decades.

In 1987, Hertz Rental became another service offered to the community.

Side by side, they dedicated decades to growing the business into something truly special.

In 2004, Trevor retired and Gary and Beth Lanham were now the official owners of Lanhams of Leeton.

Then came the third generation.

Stuart Lanham always had a passion for the motor industry. After gaining experience beyond his hometown, he returned in 2011 with fresh perspective and drive. Eventually stepping into the role of Dealer Principal in 2015.

Under Stuart’s leadership, the business has continued to grow, including the expansion into Griffith in 2018 by acquiring Keith Gill Motors.

This milestone marked the beginning of what is now known as ‘Lanham’s Motor Group’ - proudly operating across two locations. Griffith AND Leeton.

Today, Lanham’s Motor Group continues to expand rapidly, but never at the expense of what matters most.

Its heart has remained the same.

The foundation remains the same.

This is, and always will be, a family business.

A business built on people.

A business driven by a commitment to its customers and community.

In 2024, Garry’s youngest / eldest son, Mark Lanham, also joined the business as Financial Controller, further strengthening the family’s leadership across the group.

Over the years, Lanhams Motor Group has been recognised as a multi award-winning Ford and Hyundai Dealer — accolades that reflect excellence in sales, service, and customer satisfaction.

More recently, the business has continued to evolve — welcoming LDV to the lineup… and in late 2025, becoming an MG dealer.

And that… is where the story comes full circle.

Because this is where it all began.

When Lanhams Motor Group first opened its doors in 1937, MG was part of the BMC group — and proudly sold MG.

Today, nearly nine decades later…MG came home.

And with it, a very special chapter in the Lanhams story.

MG now joins the line up including Ford, Hyundai, and LDV — strengthening the range and providing even more choice and value for customers.

But beyond the awards and line up of brands, what truly defines Lanhams is its connection to the community — supporting local charities, sporting clubs, and the people who have supported them for generations.

From a small country garage…
To one of the longest-running family-owned dealerships in Australia…
